Circles Departure, Lines Stay

For this week's Creative Code challenge : Kandinsky, I decided to take an audiovisual approach stemming from Kandinsky's art process and applied them in the language of p5js. In Particular, doing a deconstructed take on the presence of Lines vs Circles, commonly feature in his work.

While taking inspiration from Allison's Code and remixing it, I wanted the movement of these circles to represent the journey of leaving my sketch and being embedded in the code of the other submissions. This is why in the sketch/video. you will witness below you these circles leave after being clicked but lines attempt to move but are stuck. Almost as if, the sound attached to them are their way of communication

  • "This was when the gaudy flowers of Wassily Kandinsky's paintings burst from their buds. Music - and the idea of music - appears everywhere in Kandinsky's work. Take his generic titles: Compositions, Improvisations, and Impressions. His mighty 10 compositions were created over more than three decades from Composition l in 1907 to Composition X in 1939." - https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2006/jun/24/art.art

Circles Departure but the Lines Stay

Circles Departure
Lines Stay
they want to go
but they can only vibrate
so they resonate
through simple sounds
as the Circles depart this town
even though stationary, they still play
as the Circles pack for their departure

While looking at different p5js code, I have started my code with a base from Allison Parish. Which is embedded below:
